Never Coming Home is at once beautiful, eye-opening, and heart-wrenching. I can't say I've ever had a literary experience quite like I had when I read this book.
There are books that tell you a story. Then there are books that grab you by every nerve ending and take you on a journey. This book did the latter. Intensely painful, beautiful, transformative. Important. Tyler Vile's poetry is sometimes a knowing nod, and other times a furiously shaking fist at the brutality of existence. There are lines in this book that will burn the inside of you for a long, long time...in a good way. Simply not a book you want to go through your life not having read.
This is an amazing read, I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. It's very beautifully written and very personal. If you get the chance to see Tyler read live, do it- it's a beautiful experience and takes her poetry into another dimension.

Heart-wrenching and soulful poems form a compelling narrative you'll find hard to put down. Tyler Vile uses the form beautifully. Also the book itself as an object is very well made and feels good in your hands. Just buy it already.
I didn't know what to expect from this book. Its abstract cover (which has a really nice feel -- just good quality production) doesn't give much away, though its title is ripe with implications. What I found was a richly drawn, extremely real world that develops from vignettes and moments. The people and emotions have been fixtures in my mind ever since. I'd highly recommend it to anyone, particularly if you have an interest in poetry, childhood, abuse, personal growth and healing, queerness, and/or disability.
This book is a brilliant portrait of resiliency, fierceness, surviving, and thriving. A FANTASTIC read for every single kind of person, no matter your experience with transgender identities and experiences, and no matter your experience with disability, familial abuse, and recovery from trauma. Great for someone who's starting to question their own gender identity, for family members of trans people, for someone who reads anything and everything written by trans people, for strangers to the whole concept of transness. It's an engaging, educational, and enlightening read. A perfect gift for a loved one!
